I know it is English centric, but a director of his caliber should be on there somewhere? I know this is not your personal list and was a merging of others, but don't you find that somewhat odd considering his filmography?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8955864147442988746.post-22423657620593034262019-04-15T05:44:41.088-07:002019-04-15T05:44:41.088-07:00Terrific, thank you, I'll have a look!Terrific, thank you, I'll have a look!aceblackblog.https://www.blogger.com/profile/08404695143187261837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8955864147442988746.post-69596937290569715602019-04-15T04:24:26.627-07:002019-04-15T04:24:26.627-07:00Here is list of 300 best films selected by voters ...Here is list of 300 best films selected by voters of czech movie database, you can look and find out what people in my country like, if you want. As you mentioned, classic international films were included, but no doubt and as I mentioned in the intro paragraph, the Top 300 list carries a bias towards English language films.

I'm glad you stumbled onto this site and I hope you are enjoying the content! The Ace Black Blog is published in North America and tends to focus on English language films, but attracts an international audience.aceblackblog.https://www.blogger.com/profile/08404695143187261837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8955864147442988746.post-72408071293570320522019-04-14T02:28:56.757-07:002019-04-14T02:28:56.757-07:00Thanks for explanation of it all. I am curious what would your personal list look like and one day I´ll find out, I guess:) I noticed, that on the list above is mix of famous movies from all countries, mostly american of course, because I suppose these lists are(were) made by Americans, are they? Well, there are some famous foreign films, which can´t miss on any list...but when I looked at it, I missed for example Carlos Saura completely, which seemed strange to me, because I´d be surpised, if you haven´t known him. At least 4 or 5 films of His would be on my list: besides The Hunt and Cría Cuervos, there would be Anna and the Wolves, Cousin Angelica and one or two more. Btw I got on this blog purely by accident, when I looked on some picture of Jack Nicholson and I clicked on it and it took me there. May I ask: You are American? Is it american site? Btw I´m from Czech Republik. This list represent the amalgamation of published source lists I had found at the time when I pulled it together, and the ranking system described at the top of list. My personal list (once I create one, eventually!) will likely be much different!

I truncated the consensus list at the Top 300; some of the films you mentioned were ranked below 300 and about 9 were in the Top 1000, as follows:

The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie: rank 306 (almost made the Top 300!)
Magnolia: 340 (also close!)
Carrie: 406
12 Monkeys: 428
First Blood: 607
25th Hour: 617
The Fly: 672
The Evil Dead: 675
Closely Watched Trains: 785

Outside the Top 1000:
After Hours: 1010
Angel Heart: 1215
Lethal Weapon: 1279
A History Of Violence: 1293
Cría Cuervos: 1754
Coming Home: 1788
The Vanishing: 1898

The others you mentioned were not ranked as they did not make it onto any of the lists I had collected. In total, 2057 movies received at least one mention on one of the lists.aceblackblog.https://www.blogger.com/profile/08404695143187261837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8955864147442988746.post-17671088176407317292019-04-13T03:04:00.799-07:002019-04-13T03:04:00.799-07:00Here are some movies, which I miss on your list: 1...Here are some movies, which I miss on your list: 12 Monkeys, Buffet Froid, The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, Coming Home (1978), Cría Cuervos, La caza, The Cremator, Closely Watched Trains, The Evil Dead (1981), First Blood, Hard Times, The Ninth Gate, Frantic, After Hours, Lost Highway, Lethal Weapon, The Vanishing (1988), Falling Down, Angel Heart, Conan the Barbarian (1981), Singles, What's Love Got to Do with It, Magnolia, The Secret Life of Words, 25th Hour, Wolfen, Under the Volcano, The Fly (1986), History of Violence, Carrie, Fiddler on the Roof...and some others would be on my list, I think :)vaclavhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18407096456521970813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8955864147442988746.post-43495330441333564722018-07-02T09:43:23.237-07:002018-07-02T09:43:23.237-07:00Thanks! Never heard of The Palm Beach Story. Preston Sturges is a talented director, so I'm intrigued. Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09395044055566348346noreply@blogger.com
